Designing a Cozy Primary Bedroom for My Sister-in-Law
A few months ago, I put all our home projects on pause to focus on designing my sister-in-law’s primary bedroom. With both her and her partner juggling full-time jobs and caring for their little girl under two, I know how essential it is to have a calm and inviting space to unwind at the end of each day. That's why I wanted to gift them this special bedroom makeover!
Part One
As always, I started the project with a mood board, having this beautiful wallpaper from Sandberg as the star of the show. I envisioned a wooden ceiling, rattan light fixtures, and warm tones throughout the space.
If you've been following me and my projects, you probably know by now that I used my go-to tongue and groove cedar boards to plank the ceiling. It’s a simple process that always turns out amazing. We left the boards natural and swapped out the fan for this beautiful light fixture, and that alone made a huge difference, giving the room a warm and cozy vibe.
The next step—and my favorite—was choosing the paint colors and painting the walls. We chose a beautiful creamy shade called Maison Blanche by Sherwin-Williams, which perfectly matched the wallpaper's background color. Then, we added the stunning wallpaper to the feature wall and finished by painting the baseboards in a gorgeous dark gray/blue shade called Homburg Gray, also by Sherwin-Williams. The room started looking so different and so good!
Part Two
We faced a small setback in the second part of this project due to a delay with the bed we ordered. In the meantime, we continued with the finishing touches in the room. We adjusted the curtain rod slightly to get the perfect balance between the window and the ceiling. Then, we installed a textured shade and neutral curtains to complement the overall vibe of the room.
I couldn’t help but share an almost-final look of the bedroom on my Instagram. I just couldn't wait any longer to style this beautiful space I designed for my sister-in-law. So, to compensate for the missing baseboards, I added layers and fluffy pillows to complete the look.
Part Three
The bed finally arrived and this is how this very special project comes to an end. The finishing touch was this gorgeous platform bed from Lulu and Georgia, which added the perfect pop of color to the calming bedroom. We made the bed with layers and textures, hung art on the walls, and added two charming lamps on either side of the bed. The bedroom is now complete.
Designing this cozy and beautiful primary bedroom for my sister-in-law has been one of my favorite projects of the year so far. What do you think?

When we moved into our new house in 2020, I knew we had a lot of work ahead of us. This house needed a lot of love, and the laundry space was one of the projects I needed to tackle as soon as possible. Of course, at that time, we opted for an easy and affordable makeover. It worked well at first, but soon after, I realized it wasn’t the best use of the space. Now, four years later, I’m making some changes.
